It is 10 years since the Mining, Minerals and Sustainable Development (MMSD) initiative was completed. MMSD offered an independent review of how the mining and minerals industry performed in relation to broad-ranging sustainable development issues. Its findings were game-changing for the sector. MMSD provided a foundation for shared understanding by stakeholders from mining CEOs to community groups. Mining CEOs of the day committed to act on its agenda as a robust and credible way to maximise the sector’s contribution to sustainable development. So where are we, 10 years on? How far have we travelled towards a sustainable and responsible mineral industry?
