This Country Assessment (CA) for Tajikistan is prepared under ADB Regional Technical Assistance (RETA) 7433: Mainstreaming Land Acquisition and Resettlement Safeguards in the Central and West Asia Region. The RETA objective is to foster more effective infrastructure development in the region through the improvement of land acquisition and resettlement (LAR) practices. This objective includes the following outcomes: (i) increased understanding amongst the governments and civil society organizations (CSO) about LAR, as defined in the ADB Safeguard Policy Statement 2009 (ADB SPS 2009) and about the improvements needed for effective LAR implementation in each participating country; (ii) improved country ownership of applicable LAR practices; (iii) closer alignment between ADB Policy and local practice; and (iv) improved procedures and technical tools to prepare and execute resettlement plans.
